Just saw Leon in Rockford, IL last week. It was a great concert! Songs I'd like to hear Leon sing: "Dream a Little Dream of Me;" "Pennies from Heaven;" "Beedle-um-bum" [that's a Jim Kweskin song].

I recently got my parents old record player and discovered they're albums. Among them was "Double Time" by an artist I was not too familur with. After listening, I became entranced. I hunted down other albums, put them on tapes and shared them with my friends. I really enjoy your music and hope I can catch you in concert some time soon. :-)

Hello, my name is Buffie Rodman and my father is a big fan of Mr. Leon Redbone. He has always enjoyed his music and has spoken of him frequently. I had been living in Orlando, Florida in the year of 95 and was working along with my significant other downtown in Orlando at a Rock N'Roll establishment called Jami Lane's Sunset Strip and Mr. Leon Redbone happened to be there that night and my significant other was able to get an autograph made out to my father on a matchbook. I still have that to this day and keep it with me so it does not get misplaced. I came across this site recently and logged onto the upcoming appearances and one is listed as the Muncie Civil Theater on November 13, 2004. I will mention it to my father and I am sure he would enjoy attending.
Thank You,
Buffie Rodman

Hey, I hope you remember your show in Everett, Washington when my Dad and I managed to sneak back stage and meet you.
You were cutting up cantelope and eating it with a knife. I just wanted to say how wonderful it was that you were so kind to us and spoke to us as long as you did. My father introduced me to your music years ago. He came 250 miles to see you play that night and I thought it would be really special for him to meet you, so we snuck backstage to meet and I could tell that it was one of the most exciting moments of my father's life. thanks again for being so kind and signing the poster for my dad. I know that neither of us will ever forget it. I hope the rest of your tour goes well and I hope that you continue to make the amazing music that you've made for so long. Peace be with you.

My step dad died a long time ago, and he didn't leave much behind. One of the things he left me was his music collection. I used to listen to your "On the track" tape and think of my dad. I lost it about 10 years ago and couldn't find another copy. I am so glad I found your website. Trying to talk my husband into seeing you in Akron...Wish me luck...A long lost fan...

Hi!
I am a youngun from Toronto, and an enthusiast of both Bluegrass and genuine Jazz. I just recently stumbled across "On The Track" having never heard of Leon Redbone before, and I was wowed! I love your music, it's funny and enjoyable and a great reconstruction of the old greats. So I have two very importnat question: Why has no one in this your hometown ever heard of you, and why haven't you performed here in so long? There are plenty opportunities, from Jazz festivals to mass concerts.
COME BAAAAAACK!!!

It's TORTURE knowing you've got Leon all to yourselves across the pond. Oh Please put him on a boat with a blanket for a sail and let your English cousins enjoy him for a bit. It's a long time since Leon's band 'got drownded in the Atlantic' on their way over to the Isle of Wight. So would you mind awfully if Leon could just pop over for an afternoon. We'll feed him buttered scones and jasmine tea. From your English cousins

Leon, love your music. Was based in Atlanta with an airline years back,
early in your career. Would bid my trips around your performances.
Attended every performance you gave in Georgia years ago. The club name escapes me,
but had oriental carpet on the floor, no chairs, and audience
sat on the carpet. You performed on a small stage with a wooden swing as part of your set. Been a fan ever since I discovered you there in Ga. Named my dog Leon Redbone after you, ha. He is a beauty....Redbone hound & he sings to me too.
Its so difficult for musicians to develope a unique style of their own,
which captivates ones soul with a magical almost undefinable quality
and uniqueness, which You have managed to do quite well. Love your work.
Wish you continued success and happiness.

I can't believe one of my favourite musical artists

isn't cool or funny just a VERY big let down. You
wouldn't see Tom Waits or someone with more dignity
allow this on their site.

Hi ya Leon,
I was looking to getting tickets for Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks this Sat. at the Palms, it lead me to the Crest website (where I produced a benefit concert in 93) and lo and behold there you were - planning to come and play in Sept. I've been a fan for decades and every year your CD dominates my xmas play list. So looking forward to catching you there; probably one of the finest playhouses in all the West, acoustically so sweet. I work with my friend Tony who makes very high end custom pool cues here in College Park, and who also resembles you very much! He told me also that once he was fishing in a row boat in the Chesapeake Bay when he was approached by a motorboat full of guys who said "come on Leon, give us an autograph please". Tony also tells me that when you play at Ram's Head next, we will be there and he will make a bit of an effort to resemble you in outfit as well. Just for fun, ya know. This will be interesting! Take it lightly!

Mr. Redbone, I don't know if you read these, but I just wanted to say I think you're music has changed me. I like listening to vinyl, so one day i was looking in my usual LP store, and i purchased "On The Track"... which is now my favourite album ever. And on a whim, today I searched up your name on google to find some great news: youre still alive and well! This makes my day. Thanks for the great music. E-mail me if you can, it'd be great. Thanks a ton Jason Walsh Halifax, NS

Been a BIG Leon Redbone fan since the 70's. Once caught a performance by Leon at the Minnesota Symphony Hall in Minneapolis. Distinctive music that one can't help by tap the feet to. Love "Sheik of Araby"...have always felt there was a distinct sexual connection with that one, Leon. "Pffft". Right?

Dear Mr. Redbone, Just want you to know that my husband and I really love your music. We had the great opportunity to see you perform but it has been long time ago. We have all your albams but the one I hold most dear is your Christmas Island album. I have baked Christmas cookies to that album for as long as I can remember. HA HA I just sung that song for my Dad the other night as we played our Ukuleles and he loved it. I'm trying to get the lyrics to that song for there is one phrase that I just can't make out. I am putting the Ukulele cords to it so we can enjoy it at strummers class. Anyway, Keep making great music, we love you and hope to see you again sometime. Margie Sweetland.

It was a real pleasure for me to be able to shake your hand when you visited us at the Martin Guitar Co. As soon as I saw you coming through on tour, I knew immediately who you were, and had to come by to say Hi. I enjoy your music very much, having first saw you on Saturday Night Live, and have several of your albums. Out of the many famous people I had the opportunity to meet at work (I started at Martin in 1972), such as David Crosby, Travis Tritt, Marty Stuart, Paul Simon, Merle Haggard, Roy Clark, Mark Knoppler, ect., I think I enjoyed seeing you the most. You just have that certain indivduality that makes you stand out. Keep the music going.

Your performance at Jonathan's in Ogunquit was wonderful. Loved the interaction with the audience and am grateful for your playing and singing my request, "NOBODY" in your curtain call. I heard Leon for the first time at the Winnipeg Folk Festival. He was great! Fantastic music. Unfortunately, he decided to skip out on his second show the next day, and play a gig in Minneapolis instead. Music was good, but that's pretty lame. I offer Greetings to all! Mr. Redbone, Me and my friend "Jack" would like to extend our sincere appreciation to you for the mighty fine music. When the sun dwindles slowly above the willows and the delectible smell of the smoke rising from the grill, breezes lazily by, Jack and I find the cozy rocker and settle in for a evening of relaxation. It would not be same without sitting back and absorbing the mellodic strumming and Vocalizations of Mr. Redbone. For this we thank you. May your travels find you well. The next time you and yours are in the fine state of Indiana (round Indianapolis way) Please allow me the pleasure of hosting you and yours to a fine meal. Hi Leon, I love the CD "Whistling in the Wind!" I recently read an article about how playing your music at garage sales increases sales. I agree with the person who wrote that you should sing with Alex Pangman! Your deep voice and her swing era jazz voice that really does sound like it's from the 30s would mix really, really well together. Wow! What a fabulous combination that would be.

Winters in MI really suck. As soon as the weather breaks in April, I open all the windows, let the sun pour in and play Mr. Redbone's cds. His music is the promise of spring for me; my mind wanders to visions of steamboats, lilacs, lace dresses, and warm southern breezes while I press and starch my doilies. I play his music while I dress my home for sunny days. When putting my family photos onto cd (dating from the mid-1800's) I chose Mr. Redbone's music as the soundtrack. Many thanks to him for sharing his unique talents and bringing sunshine and wimsy to so many of us!

Oh, no, I just read some of the entries in this guest book. Was it really in the early 70s - like 73 - he performed on SNL??? Doesn't actually matter - that won't make me any older or younger, not that I would care, but yeah, time flies. From some of the pictures on this site has he truly trimmed his moustache? God Forbid. He had the most outstanding moustache. Not many men can grow them like that. That's all, I promise.

Last Friday,Leon Redbone's piano man Paul Asaro was a special pleasure. His tasteful and masterful accompaniment was restrained but emotionally engaged--a beautiful match for the music. Enviable skill and God-given talent were demonstrated by Paul Asaro with his interpretation and obvious appreciation of JellyRoll Morton.

My husband introduced me to your music in 1997 and I have loved listening to you ever since. We even had tickets to see you in Sturbridge in 2001 but were unable to go due to a family emergency. Then my son in law told me in April 2003 that you were recently in Northampton. I could have cried!!! Now your schedule posted here says you won't be back for a long time. So sorry I missed you. Please if you can let me know when you will be back in MA. Anita

Dahlink - Noisy bastards in the bar last night didn't win. I crept down the stairs to look, listen and smile. You were gone too soon. Come back! And make it Valentine's; that'll give us enough time to dream up a truly intimate venue for a soiree of syncopation, serenades and sweethearts I had a ball last night, but next time, remember the bon bons! :0*

We certainly enjoyed the concert in Idaho Falls. You might send that ol'horn man to fiddlin' school though...bring back that Venuti sound on Aint Misbehavin', you know! The whole trio was SPITZE (yiddish for THE TOPS...not the dog). The west needs more Redbone.

My mom introduced me to your music when I was a little girl. I was born in 1975...so I was about 3 when Champagne Charlie entered our living room through our old record player, and became one of my favorites to dance around and goof off with my mom to. It 'opened my ears' to the ragtime-oldtime style, and I have had the rythm and the soul in my heart ever since. Thank you for being you, and making your music and making it available to share with the world. My mom and I had the most wonderful night on Thursday night 4/17/2003 when you graced us with your presence, your mood, and your music at the Aladdin Theatre in Portland, OR. What a night! Thanks Leon, and please keep the music comin'.

I had left message below about the show at the Stoneham Theatre; Leon played an hour then went off stage. The audience thought it was an intermission and went out to the concession stand, restrooms, etc.--only to be told that "he's only doing one set". At least Leon and the band did a couple of "encores". The posters said "An Evening With Leon Redbone", not an hour. But some trivia: according to the Saturday Night Live book (the First 20 Years), here are the songs Leon did on SNL and when he did them: 2/28/76: Ain't Misbehavin'; Big Time Woman 5/29/76: Shine on Harvest Moon; Walking Stick

Hello Mr. Leon Redbone...The first time I heard you was one Saturday night back in the 1970's...I was watching the old 'Saturday Night Live' show and you sang 'Shine On Harvest Moon'. I became an instant fan and have been ever since. I've got all your albums. I bought the first one the day after I first heard you on 'Saturday Night Live'. Listening to your music got me through many a hard time in my life. Now I'm getting old and your music to me is still and always shall be the greatest. You are truly the finest of the finest...a real 'right-on' and very cool dude. Keep it coming Mr. Redbone and come to this part of Canada. Hey...we Canucks love you!

Just saw Leon at Stoneham Theater in Mass. The show was good but far too short. He did wonderful ragtime tunes, had fun talking with audience, etc. But after one hour he went off stage and we thought we had an intermission. The word started spreading that the show was actually over. Some people left; others did stay and heard Leon and the band come out to do a quick encore. But that was it. It was a great show, but people paid $27 and $30 to see a performance that was just over an hour. Is that all we get?

I saw you in 1978 in The Commodore Ballrom. It was the best show I have ever seen. I saw something at your show that I have never seen before or since. You did an encore and left the stage. People kept clapping, yelling and stomping their feet. The house lights came on, but only a few people left. Most everybody stayed and kept screaming and stomping and clapping for about ten minutes. Then you reappeared and said "You are all sinners and one day you will pay for this!" You then played another encore. I have met others who were there that night and still talk about the great show you put on that night. The Commodore has reopened. Are you coming to Vancouver?

Great web site! Thanks for all the music. We first saw you in Boston (Cambridge) a long time ago. Try 1975 or 6. Also went to show in New York, New Jersey and Louisiana. We have been in Saratoga for 5 years. No luck yet, but we will keep checking the site. If you get to this area, we will be in the audiance. Yes, we own all of your LPs, Tapes and CDs.

Hello Leon, Thank you for your wonderful talent that makes so many happy. I saw you many times in the San Franciso Bay Area over the years. I am still blind from your Polaroid! I used to bring my flashlight to the Catalyst to shine back at you, screaming for you to sing Ain't Misbehavin'. I was hooked on that from SNL. In over 10 times I saw you, you did not do that song, my only missing want in life. My father loved you and we took him to see you at Santa Cruz Univ way back. That was my first time as well. A great time in SF was with Bromberg sitting in. Misbehavin' and Hurry Home Sweet Mamma constantly course thru my brain as I try to sing like you at times in the car. Your voice is so infectious and I sing to your first album often. Thanks again for your bringing us joy, Frank Charles.

Dear Leon: I will never forget seeing you perform at the ?? Ballroom here in OKC. It was 1975, I think and got excited about you just from the music in the radio commercial for the concert. My first favorite of yours was "Crazy Blues", wonderful song. The intermission was great, you played a tape of march music and soaked your harmonica in a glass of water. Went home and told all my friends that you played guitar like a man making love to a woman he had known forever. (kinda reminded me of George Moustaki's song "Ma Solitude". Any fans who want to communicate with me, just email, especially those of you in OK. love, firey

Every Christmas morning, before the presents are opened, I put on the Christmas Island music. My kids hated it. Now that they are grown, they laugh and joke about it. My son is now in the service and will not be home for Christmas. I am sending him the CD as a gift in his Christmas box. I'm sure he will feel at home hearing you at Christmas. You have made happy memories and put smiles on our faces in our family. Merry Christmas and Good Health to you. Maureen

Has anybody noticed that the theme song for the PBS children's show, "Mary Lou Retton's Flip Flop Shop," sure sounds like it's sung by Leon? I haven't been able to confirm it yet but each time I hear the song, I'm convinced it's Leon. Also, I caught Leon a few times on "Between the Lions" singing his version of the alphabet. It's great! Just a note from us Baton Rouge boys to let you know how much we enjoyed your show in Chattanooga. Being from Louisiana, that's not exactly what we'd call a downpour though. Surely not enough to "dampen" our excitement, but just enough to "wet" our appetite for more. Would like to cut into that 1100 mile round trip though. Why don't ya'll schedule a show down here on the "Muddy Mississippi" soon?

Thank you for coming to Murfreesboro on the 19th of Sept and I hope to catch you again in Chattanooga tomorrow night. It was a pleasure to see you perform after all these years.
I was glad to see that I am not the only one who enjoy to take pictures of their audience when they perform.
Much fun, indeed!
Best regards,

Your music has truly touched me, I only recently attached a face and name to the voice I have heared off and on scence I was a child. I found myself an instant fan watching an old SNL rerun thinking, why have I not heard or seen him before. I had heard "up a lazy river", heard the name Leon Redbone many times, finaly every thing is matched to geather. The first chance I had to find your web sight I did. Thank you for proving that the beutiful classic sound of the thirties and fourties era can make it into the livingroom of millions of rockin roll, rap and new age music listeners and touch them. You can't be denied you sing and play guitar and people have no choice but to listen, love and admire you. Atleast that is definently how I felt when I saw you. Thank you so much you have inspired me and touched me. You have a true fan for live and beyond.
Your newest fan,

Heard Leon in concert at least four times while I was living in Dallas. Now that I've moved to smaller city in Illinois, it is harder to find his performances and get tickets, etc. Heard him once at Peoria and once in St. Louis. Last time he was in St. Louis, the performance was sold out when I went to buy tickets a month in advance. Hearing him in concert is always great, but I wish he would put "I Want To Be Seduced" in his live repertoire.

Absolutely timeless. He is one of the finest blues singers ever, and I am convinced that history will remember him as such. One of my personal favorites is "I want to be Seduced..." NO ONE sings a song like that but LR!

I see you are coming to Chattanooga September 20, 2002. I am looking forward to seeing/hearing you perform! Please play "Ain't Misbehavin"! I also saw you on a Sat Night Live rerun playing that tune and it was just great. As an aspiring guitar player I really enjoyed the finger picking on that tune. Thanks for not retiring just yet...

Hello...I just saw Leon on a sat. Night Live re-run from 1975. I remember going out and buying his album, when I moved to boston in 1976. Because I had seen him on SNL the year before. Where did all the time go. Leon is timeless.

Thanks Leon, for 30-odd years of wonderful music.
Here’s a quick one about the beauty of minimalism, and why, very often, it’s much better to play one note instead of many.
Back in the 70’s L.R. was scheduled to play at an afternoon Mariposa Folk Festival workshop. The news was out, so a large crowd gathered & waited. And waited. Finally, himself arrived! He scanned the crowd suspiciously & edged over to the stool and microphone provided. A hush fell. There was a few test chords. We waited...... He fanned himself in the bright afternoon sunlight.
Then.......
Please don’t talk about me when I’m gone......, Leon completed the lovely old song. And left.
But we did, didn’t we?

I was delighted that Leon Redbone was giving a free concert in a local park!! I have called radio stations to find out why they do not play his recordings. No one has an answer. I hope Leon will consider playing at the Garden State Art Center. I could fill the place up with just my friends!!
